Berth ownership

Phang Nga Bay in the Andaman Sea of Thailand is recognized as one of a world’s best yachting destinations and playgrounds. This stunning archipelago with its white sand beaches, unsurpassed marine life, mild tropical climate, and Thai culture has witnessed a dramatic increase in yachting activity during recent years.  This success has put pressure on berth availability.

As in many other countries, environmental regulations and the scarcity of suitable sites makes marina development difficult, but the good news is that a new marina will open near Krabi during 2016.

Port Takola is a private marina that will appeal not only because of its geographical location but also because of its sensitive development style.  This is a rural marina lying between a protected mangrove forest and lightly wooded grasslands.  The marina offers yacht owners and crews a peaceful berthing place, yet one that is only a few minutes drive from the tourist hot spot of Ao Nang, and only about 40 minutes drive from Krabi International Airport.

Port Takola offers a once in a generation opportunity to purchase long-term berthing rights in the best yachting region of Thailand.

Investing in a long-term berth (often referred to in the industry as a berth sale contract) is popular in Europe. During the 1990s the price of marina berths in the best areas of the Mediterranean increased dramatically because of a shortage of supply, and berth owners found themselves holding a very valuable asset.  The same growth scenario is anticipated in the Andaman Sea area of Thailand because of its popularity and the difficulty of developing new marinas.

The benefits of investing in a marina berth at the new Port Takola include:
    • Select the berth you want and know that it is exclusively yours.
    • Fix the cost of your berthing by avoiding future increases in annual rental rates.
    • The potential to sub-let the berth when your yacht is away.
    • Tremendous potential for growth in the capital value of your berth.
    • The right to assign (sell) the berth if you wish.

Once you have purchased the berthing contract your only financial obligation will be to pay the annual berth maintenance charge. This will be a percentage of the published annual berthing tariff, so the calculation will be transparent and predictable.

Long-term berthing contracts are offered for terms of 10 years.
